our square dance instructors
Glenview Squares is fortunate to have dedicated experienced callers as instructors for our classes. We hope you’ll get to know them better by reading about them here and working with them in class.
JAMES CHA
James Cha began calling in 2017. A natural teacher, his students appreciate his clear, encouraging teaching style. James calls regularly for Glenview Squares and leads the club’s SSD and Plus classes and workshops. He also calls and teaches at other Chicago-area clubs. Fun fact: During the Pandemic, James taught himself call to virtual dancers via Zoom — keeping dancers connected when it mattered most.
Outside the square, James organizes caller workshops and coordinates talent for regional dances. He served as Programming Chair for the Illinois Square Dance Convention in 2024 and 2025, and has called at multiple state conventions and two Nationals.
James is a past president of Glenview Squares and an active CALLERLAB member.
CANDICE HANSEN
Candice Hansen began calling in 2018, bringing her background as a singer and music educator to the square dance floor. She’s drawn to the artistry and complexity of calling. Dancers appreciate her musicality, thoughtful choreography and welcoming style.
Candice teaches SSD classes and workshops for Glenview Squares. She also calls and teaches for other Chicago-area clubs. Candice has appeared at multiple state conventions and the National Square Dance Convention, and is an active member of CALLERLAB.

BRUCE HOLMES (retired)
Square Dance Instructor Bruce Holmes began calling in 2013. His teaching efforts with Glenview Squares led to the founding of our sister club, North Shore Squares, and to the publication of a textbook, Becoming a Square Dance Caller. Bruce has spent most of his life teaching one thing or another, and he’s never found anything to match the fascination, rewards, challenges and fun of teaching Square Dancing.
